Restoring constitutional republicanism
by electing conservative first candidates
The Sixth Congressional District’s experience mirrors the state of Michigan as a whole. The once thriving region of the state is now engaged in a battle between the free-market spirit that propelled the state’s early achievements and the progressives’ preference for overregulation and high taxation. Representative Fred Upton is the congressman from this district and while there are worse examples of political leaders in Michigan, Conservative First has chosen Upton for its 2016 Target List because he represents the stagnation of the the area that needs new leadership for success.
Rep. David Joyce
Ohio - 14th District
The 14th Congressional District is located in the very northeast corner of Ohio, and within this district is a mirror-image of the political diversity of Ohio. Representative David Joyce is the congressman from this district and unfortunately he does not represent the conservatives of this district with any great zeal. His ineffectual relationship with conservatism lands him on Conservative First’s 2016 Target List. Although Joyce has proved to be a far more reliable conservative than his predecessor, the citizens of that district deserve better and Conservative First is on the job to make that a reality.
How much longer are we the people going to allow our elected representatives to destroy our children and grandchildren's future with unsustainable debt and reckless policies? We must defeat these politicians in the primaries in order to elevate real constitutional conservatives into the leadership.
Rep. Fred Upton
Michigan - 6th District
Kentucky - 5th District
Speaker Paul Ryan
Wisconsin - 1st District
Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers from Kentucky’s 5th Congressional District is the personification of the caricature which has long been associated with the American politician who has been in office too long, has too much power, and wields it without any regard to the consequences. He was even given the dubious nickname “Prince of Pork” by his hometown newspaper, The Lexington Herald-Leader. Few subjects in modern politics can unite conservative and progressive causes but Hal Rogers is one of those exceptions. He is routinely given low scores for his record by groups that represent both sides of the political spectrum.
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan of Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District was once viewed by pundits as the heir apparent to the conservative movement in America. He was young, energetic, and was supported by the grassroots conservative movement. He is well known to be an avid admirer of Ayn Rand and her political and social theories, especially her most famous work Atlas Shrugged. When Mitt Romney tapped Rep. Ryan as his running mate in the 2012 presidential election, the choice was interpreted as an acknowledgment by Romney due to his lack of conservative roots and an attempt to remedy that.
